Does your air conditioning unit haveĀ a safety float switch installed in the drain line? In my previous post I talked about the homemade central air conditioning unit a lady created in her attic. One of the many bad outcomes that could have happened was damage to her ceiling if the drain line of the window air conditioning unit clogged up and the kiddie pool over flowed onto her ceiling.
One thing all home owners could do to prevent flood damage to their homes is to have a safety float switch installed in the secondary drain line of their ac unit. What often happens is debris and algae clog up the line and the water has nowhere else to go except to overflow out of the drain pan. The safety float switch is designed to react to the rising water. When the water reaches a certain level the safety float switch will rise up tripping a switch that shuts off your unit and prevents water damage to your home. Adding a cup of bleach or algae tabs to your drain pan every 1-3 months is also recommended to help keep drain lines clean.
If you live in the Orlando area and are unsure if your air conditioning unit has a safety float switch installed you can call your Orlando Air Conditioning Experts to examine your drain line. If it is determined that your unit is missing a safety float switch Promag Energy Group can easily install one for you.

You know how if you have any pollen allergies you feel congested, tired and sluggish all the time? It’s the same for your air conditioner. Think of your AC filter as the stuffy nose. It is congested with pollen and restricts airflow to your AC unit. Let your air conditioner breath….change your filter every couple of weeks during this high pollen season to help maintain the health of your air conditioning unit.
You want to use a filter with a medium to high MERV ratio.
MERV is an efficiency ratio to determine the ability of air conditioners filters to capture a particle when it passes through the air filters. The air conditioning filters efficiency values (MERV) are numbered 1 to 16. The MERV efficiency is measured in microns.
The higher MERV number, the better the air filters ability to remove particles. The lowest ratios provide protection for the the air conditioning unit itself and the middle and higher ratios filter out mildew, spores, pollen, and even viruses.
